Product &
Design System

As Specsavers expanded across multiple markets, its digital presence had evolved organically over time. Different regions were delivering experiences in different ways, resulting in inconsistent interfaces, varied user experiences, fragmented solutions and increasing technical debt. Accessibility standards were also inconsistent, making it difficult to deliver a unified and inclusive digital experience at scale.

The Problem

Without a shared framework, teams across markets were designing and building digital services using different patterns, styles, and approaches. This led to inconsistencies in both the customer experience and internal ways of working, making products harder to maintain and scale. The lack of documented standards also created inefficiencies between design, content, and development teams, while accessibility requirements were not being applied consistently across the platform.

The Solution

We created the Specsavers Digital Design Standards, a comprehensive framework that now underpins how digital products are designed, built, and governed across all markets. The standards established clear design principles, a unified tone of voice, accessibility guidelines aligned to WCAG requirements, and a consistent set of design patterns and behaviours. Fully documented and continuously evolving. The framework provides teams with a shared source of truth that brings consistency to customer experiences, reduces technical debt, improves collaboration, and enables regional teams to deliver locally relevant solutions within a cohesive global system.
